Tout au bout du monde by TiBZ

Published by Lyrical Language on

This song is a great ode to friendship. And hey, it’s a French musician who wasn’t on The Voice.

“Tout au bout du monde” is a song by French singer TiBZ. It was released in November of 2019, and is the first song released off of his upcoming second album.

About the Artist

Thibaut Gaudillat, who performs as TiBZ, is a french singer/songwriter from Périgueux, a town in the Dordogne region of southwestern France. As a child he was fascinated by his father’s old electric guitar, and loved to play on it. When his parents divorced in 2003 his father gave him the guitar. He would then go on to learn guitar, piano, ukulele and drums. At sixteen years old he began posting videos on YouTube and playing in bars in Paris. His videos saw enough success that he was able to sign with My Major Company to release is first album. He then moved to Basque Country to to focus on writing and composing.

In March 2015 he released his first solo single “On n’est pas bien là?”. The song enjoyed good popularity, and when French singer Louane heard it she reached out to TiBZ. The two became friends and TiBZ was the opening act for her 2015/2016 tour. He released two more singles from the album, “Ton sourire” in January of 2016 and “Nation” at the end of the year. Release of his first album, also entitled Nation, followed in June 2017, and was well received by the public. He was nominated for the “Francophone Revelation of the Year” at the 2017 NRJ music awards. He is set to release his second album in 2020.

Cultural References and Idioms

‘n’importe quoi’ – Literally translating as ‘no matter what’, this means ‘nonsense’, ‘whatever’ or ‘anything’. This can also be used as a response to something you don’t believe, where Americans would say “Whatever!”

‘s’inviter’ – Literally translating as’ to invite oneself’, this phrase means ‘to show up’ or ‘to arrive’.

‘tendre les bras à qqn’ – This phrase can mean either the more literal ‘to reach out to someone’ or the more figurative ‘to welcome someone with open arms’. The first meaning makes the most sense in the context of this song.

‘avoir besoin de’ – This is one of the phrases using the verb ‘avoir’. Translating literally to “to have need of’, a better translation would simply be ‘to need’.

‘face à’ – This means either more literally ‘facing’ or ‘in front of’, or more figuratively ‘faced with’.

‘être de taille’ – Literally translating as ‘to be of size’ this phrase means ‘to be up to’, ‘to be man enough’ or ‘to be capable’.

‘avoir peur’ = This is another common phrase with the verb ‘avoir’. In French to say ‘to be afraid’ translates literally as ‘to have fear’.

Tout au bout du monde

[Verse 1]

Si t’as besoin de moi
Je te les donne si t’as besoin de moi

Lyrics with Translation

Songs in any language often leave room for multiple interpretations. Following is my interpretation of the song lyrics.

Tout au bout du monde
At the very end of the world

[Verse 1]
Je t’ai connu avant l’enfer, je t’ai connu t’étais le roi
I knew you before hell, I knew you, you were the king
Bien avant les cernes et la noirceur, des enfants de la nuit qui font n’importe quoi
Long before dark circles and darkness, children of the night who do whatever
Souviens-toi quand tu faisais rire les filles, souviens-toi comment t’étais beau et fier
Remember when you made the girls laugh, remember how handsome and proud you were
Avant que s’invite une aiguille, vois ce qu’elle a fait à mon frère
Before the clock hand arrives, see what it (time) did to my brother

[Chorus]
Tout au bout du monde, au bord du vide je te tendrai les bras
At the very end of the world, on the edge of emptiness I will reach out to you
Et toutes mes secondes, je te les donne si t’as besoin de moi
And all of my seconds, I give to you if you need me
Tout au bout du monde, au bord du vide je te tendrai les bras
At the very end of the world, on the edge of emptiness I will reach out to you
Et toutes mes secondes, je te les donne si t’as besoin de moi
And all of my seconds, I give to you if you need me

[Verse 2]
Tu peux mentir au monde entier mais face à moi t’es pas de taille
You can lie to the whole world, but facing me you aren’t up to it
Je n’ai pas peur de tes secrets, de tes blessures, de tes entailles
I’m not afraid of your secrets, your wounds, your cuts
Regarde-nous sur la photo quand on trinquait à l’amitié
Look at us in the picture when we were drinking to friendship
Aucun trucage, non rien de faux, viens qu’on retourne dans le passé
No special effects, no nothing false, come on let’s return to the past

Je te tendrai les bras
I will reach out to you
Et toutes mes secondes, je te les donne si t’as besoin de moi
And all of my seconds, I give to you if you need me

[Bridge]
Et sur ta peau abîmée, j’effacerai tes blessures, c’est ma bataille
And on your damaged skin, I will erase your wounds, this is my battle
Et je marcherai à tes côtés, où que tu sois, où que tu ailles
And I will walk by your side, wherever you are, wherever you go

Si t’as besoin de moi
If you need me
Je te les donne si t’as besoin de moi
I give to you if you need me
