Relative Pronouns

A relative pronoun is a pronoun that introduces a relative clause. Relative clauses give more information about a noun that has already been mentioned. The French relative pronouns are:

PronounFunction
QuiSubject
Indirect object (person)
QueDirect object
LequelIndirect object (thing)
DontObject of preposition ‘de’
Indicate place or time

Only ‘lequel’ changes form to match the referenced noun by gender and number, becoming ‘laquelle’, ‘lesquels’ and ‘lesquelles’.

In this song we see the pronoun ‘auxquels’. This is simply a contraction of the preposition ‘à’ and the masculine plural form of ‘lequel’.
