These exercises are all about practicing the irregular verbs ‘avoir’ and ‘être’ in the present tense.

In the lyrics exercises, all instances of the verbs ‘avoir’ and ‘être’ in the present tense have been removed. Just listen to the song and fill them in. On this page, the video floats so you can pause it more easily if needed. If you aren’t super confident of the spellings yet, go ahead and use the drag and drop exercise. But if you think you’ve got the spelling down use the fill in the blank exercise.

In the sentence exercises, the sentences that contain the verbs ‘avoir’ and ‘être’ have been provided, but with the verbs removed. We have indicated the verb to guide you in filling in the blanks. Once again, if you’re not super confident, start with the drag and drop exercise.

The highlighting exercise is just about recognizing the verbs ‘avoir’ and ‘être’. Can you pick out all the instances of these irregular verbs?

Note that there are two instances of the verb ‘avoir’ as part of the passé composé (compound past). We have included the conjugation of avoir for practice, but have provided the past participle. These are ‘t’as mis du sel’ and ‘J’ai encore cassé ma guitare’.
